ITINERARY
Begin your journey through Rio’s history at XV Square, one of the city’s most important historic landmarks. From here, pass by the impressive Tiradentes Palace and continue to the Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, dating back to 1590, where you’ll have the opportunity to step inside and discover its historic interior.
Continue on foot along Rua do Comércio, one of downtown Rio’s historic streets and once home to Carmen Miranda, the Brazilian-born star who went on to become an icon of Hollywood. The walk continues toward the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil and the Candelária area, where you’ll see the Olympic Cauldron that marked Rio’s role as host of the 2016 Olympic Games.
From Candelária, continue to the Monastery of Saint Benedict for an interior visit to one of Brazil’s most remarkable examples of Baroque architecture. From this historic setting, enjoy a panoramic view over Rio’s modern waterfront, including the Museum of Tomorrow and the port area — a striking contrast between the city’s past and present.
The journey continues with a brief introduction to Little Africa, an important part of Rio’s African heritage and cultural history. Then, make a short stop at the iconic Colombo Bakery, a Rio institution since 1894, with the option to purchase traditional treats to take with you.
Continue to Cinelândia, one of Rio’s most impressive cultural squares, surrounded by landmarks such as the Municipal Theater, National Library and Pedro Ernesto Palace.
Finish the experience with a panoramic drive past the historic Arcos da Lapa before a comfortable return to your hotel.
